US accuses UN probe cmte of bias against Israel

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US Department of States stated opposition to findings of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza Conflict that signal that Israel committed war crimes against Palestinians during the 50-day conflict.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Department Spokesperson Jeff Rathke said: "The United States strongly opposed the creation of the Gaza Commission of Inquiry.

"You know, there is unfortunately a long history of anti-Israel bias in UN resolutions and mechanisms, including at the Human Rights Council, which persists in an unbalanced focus on Israel by singling it out with a permanent agenda item, for example," he said.

"So, you know, we've opposed the Commission of Inquiry report and the creation of the Commission of Inquiry (in last July).

"We opposed the creation of the Commission of Inquiry because of a long history of anti-Israel bias at the UN," Rathke added.

On Thursday the Israeli authorities announced the findings of its own probes into several incidents related to the offensive, including the air attack on Gaza beach where four children were killed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scorned the UN probe as "a waste of time."
