Oman- Water shortage in many areas forces families to shift houses

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Many families living in areas facing water shortage have shifted their houses to places which are getting regular supply of water.

The crisis began more than a month ago. However many others are on a wait and watch mode after the Public Authority for Electricity and Water's announcement last week that the crisis is likely to ease in a few weeks' time.

Shahaja Ali a resident of Qurm Heights said 'One of my neighbours shifted to another area because of irregular water supply. I have not seen many of my Omani neighbours since the problem began a month ago. I think that they have either shifted to other areas or are living with friends or relatives. Now even I am contemplating shifting to a locality that is not facing this problem.'

Another resident Mohammed Sultan who has shifted from Muttrah to Al Khuwayr due to the same reason said 'We were forced to shift from Muttrah as there was no water supply for three weeks. We used to go to malls to have shower. We had no choice but to shift to Al Khuwayr. Two of my neighbours have also shifted to Al Khuwayr.'

Shaiju Pereira a resident of CBD who shifted from Ghubra recently said 'We were surviving on bottled water which is expensive. You can't go to friends' places for everyday chores.'

A real estate agent in CBD said 'I have got several calls from families based in Muttrah and Darsait who are keen to shift to areas like CBD where water supply is slightly better compared to other areas.'
