UN Chief Calls for Ramadan Truce in Yemen

(MENAFN- QNA) All sides in the Yemen conflict should silence their weapons during the Ramadan fasting month starting this week, UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon said Monday in Geneva after launching negotiations to stop the conflict.

The pause during Ramadan would allow humanitarian aid to reach the civilians, he said.

"We don't have a moment to lose," Ban told reporters.

Beyond the humanitarian pause, he urged the conflict parties to agree to local ceasefires and withdrawal of armed groups from cities, paving the way to a lasting truce.
