Asian Sports Press president slams campaign against Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Asian Sports Press Association (ASPA) president yesterday backed Qatar's right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha and denounced the malicious campaign by a section of British media against the country.

In a statement issued yesterday, Faisal al-Qenaei, who is also the vice president of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), said, "Qatar's legitimate right to host 2022 FIFA World Cup is an established fact, and no one can dispute it.

"We are tired of the desperate and malicious attempts by some British newspapers that are still trying to discredit Qatar's right to host the 2022 World Cup. They know very well that Qatar won the bid to host the football finals fairly.

"Qatar hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup is a dream for Asia, GCC and Arab nations. Such desperate attempts to steal this dream will not work.

"We will not allow such attempts and their agenda and suspicion, which reek of racism, to succeed. Asia is the largest continent of the world and it will stand up against this campaign against Qatar and expose it to the world."

The ASPA statement further said we have confidence in Qatar's capacity to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. "We extend our support and capabilities to Qatar against this campaign unleashed by the British media."
