PNC condemns Israeli violence against Palestinian detainees

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Palestinian National Council (PNC) has strongly condemned the violent Israeli practices against Palestinian detainees being held in Israeli prisons and has called for a quick notification of these crimes to the International Criminal Court to implement sanctions and penalties.

The PNC's headquarters in Amman, on Monday, said it denounced the murder of Palestinians by Israel, the latest of which claimed the life of Abdullah Ghuneimat.

Ghuneimat, 22, was shot by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and hit with a military vehicle. He was left under the vehicle for three hours before Israeli forces granted access to him.

Moreover, the PNC warned of the consequences of a dangerous escalation in violence, seen in the recent approval of a draft law for Israeli authorities to force-feed prisoners on a hunger strike.

The PNC, the highest authority in the Palestine Liberation Organization, called on international stakeholders to assume their responsibility to compel the Israeli government to treat the detainees in its prisons in accordance with the provisions of the 1949 Third Geneva Convention.

The legislative body also condemned the use of administrative detention, which permits the Israeli military to hold prisoners indefinitely, based on secret information, without charging them or allowing them to stand trial.
