South Korean President Calls for Better Epidemic Response System

(MENAFN- QNA) South Korean President Park Geun-hye stressed on Monday that a more structured system for responding to new infectious diseases must be established as she said no borders exist for outbreaks of such diseases.
During a meeting of senior presidential secretaries on Monday, Park said key tasks in setting up a more structured response system include fostering epidemiological investigators, strengthening the ability to diagnose contagious diseases and increasing the number of negative pressure isolation wards.
In particular, Park said the MERS response team, made up of experts, is playing a crucial role in swiftly handling the current outbreak. The president said the response team should be upgraded to a key, permanent organization that would have a more complete system.
Park added that the government, private experts and municipalities are uniting with all the public in fighting MERS. The president vowed to contain the outbreak soon and to return a sense of stability to people’s lives.
