Arab Parliament worried over Yemeni crisis


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab Parliament (AP) Sunday voiced concern over crisis in Yemen and suffering of people in that Arab country, calling for swift resolution of conflict based on UN resolution 2216, GCC initiative and national dialogue outcome.

The AP, at the end of its 6th and final meeting of the 3rd session of the first legislative term, called on all Yemeni parties currently in Geneva, Switzerland, to put the national interest of their country as their prime objective.

The Yemeni parties should first consider the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, as well as safety of its people, said the AP in a statement.

On Syria, the AP members urged on the conflicting groups to stop the military hostilities on the occasion of the Muslims' holy month of Ramadhan.

They expressed alarming concern over deterioration in Syria, and killing of
civilians.

The Syrian parties should sit on table of negotiations to end conflict, which has entered its fifth year, in line with the final communique of the June 2012 Geneva conference.

The AP voiced worries over stagnation of the Middle East peace process, calling on occupation authorities to end occupation of the Arab and Palestinian territories, to pave way for establishment of the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Arab MPs called on UN Security Council (UNSC) to set a specific timetable for the Israeli withdrawal.

They urged all Palestinian factions to implement the reconciliation agreement, end the division and foster unity to pave way for general elections.

The Arab MPs, meanwhile, reiterated support for the Libyan people and the national dialogue that would preserve unity of the north African country.

They said they backed the Libyan army in its fight against terrorism. They urged Arab countries and international community to lift the arms embargo on the army.

On Iraq, the AP commended the Iraqi forces' victories against the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL), gravely concerned over the Israeli continuous occupation Arab lands and urged Iran to end occupation of three UAE islands.

They condemned all forms of violence and terrorism, specially if they were used under pretext of religion.

They called for carrying out development projects in the least developed countries, like Somalia, Djibouti and Comoros in a drive to address illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, illegal immigration, terrorism and crime.
