Egypt, Russia conclude joint naval exercises

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Egyptian and Russian naval forces concluded their first joint drills dubbed "Bridge of Friendship 2015" in the Egyptian territorial waters on Sunday.

Egypt is looking forward to closer military cooperation with Russia, Command of the Egyptian Naval Force Rear Admiral Staff Osama Munir said at a joint press conference with deputy commander of the Russian Navy Alexander Fedotenkov.

He spoke highly of the successful drills, saying they met the set targets through conducting joint midsea tactical, combat, logistic, rescue, reconnaissance and communication operations.

"The naval drills provided a chance for Egyptian Naval Force to benefit from the long experience of the Russian Navy," he added.

For his part, Fedotenkov affirmed that the drills were a historic event and targeted no particular country.

The Bridge of Friendship 2015 was meant to promote the bilateral defense cooperation, and enhance peace and stability in the Mediterranean region, he said, expressing desire to continue such drills in the future.

The coming days will see more joint exercises with Egypt and other countries, he added.
