People of Yemen need humanitarian help: paper

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) A UAE paper has said that representatives from parties in Yemen will gather for talks brokered by the UN in Geneva today in an effort to try and find a way forward to create a stable and effective political administration.

"But even if the scheduled three days of talks don't reach an agreement, the talks will nevertheless be a success if all sides can hammer out a deal to allow more humanitarian aid in," said Gulf News in an editorial today.

The Al Houthi rebels have usurped the legitimate government and authority of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi. An international coalition of Arab nations, of which the UAE is proud to be playing its part, has formal UN Security Council approval for a military intervention there. While that campaign against the Al Houthis is ongoing, the result of the rebels' criminality means that some 80 percent of Yemen's population is in need of humanitarian relief.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE have pledged millions of dollars in funds to provide relief and rebuild Yemen, but that long-term work cannot proceed until the threat of Al Houthis is fully erased and eradicated.

"The UAE has been at the forefront in providing relief on the ground, with two planes of aid carrying food and medical supplies being delivered at the weekend. Make no mistake, the UAE and its allies are committed to supplying aid to all in Yemen, it is the Al Houthis who are standing in the way," concluded the Dubai-based daily.
