Tunisia- Arab security experts urge boosting security media

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Speakers at the fourth session of the joint Arab security media commission highlighted late Thursday the need to make concerted efforts to enhance the role of security media in the combat against all forms of criminal activities.

Secretary General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC) Dr. Ahmad Koman who chaired the meeting said the mass media play a complementary role with security men in combating crimes through their awareness programs.

In his inaugural speech, Koman stressed the need to implement law on all security men and journalists if they violated the rights of any citizen, noting that there should be no immunity to anybody when it comes to human rights violations.

He called for closer relationship, and mutual respect and trust between the security services and mass media with a view to bridging the gap between policemen and press people.

Other speakers expressed unconventional views that the mass media are no longer a means of conveying facts about events but play a role in making them to a great extent.

They agreed to organize joint training courses for representatives of the mass media and the security media departments of the Arab interior ministries in order to build confidence between both sides.

Before the session of the joint commission, the 11th security media conference was held here in the presence of representatives of the Arab League and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS).

The delegation of the State of Kuwait to the two meetings was led by Deputy Director of the Interior Ministry's Security Media Dept. Maj. Othman Al-Mansouri.

The outcomes of the two meetings are to be tabled to the coming AIMC ministerial meeting for endorsement.
