UN official lauds Kuwait's support for refugees


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has held talks with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres on the UN efforts for aiding refugees namely those of Syria.

Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and Guterres, currently on a visit to the country, talked about Kuwait's support for the international humanitarian agency and implementation of resolutions of the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, hosted by Kuwait in March.

Guterres expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait, namely its leadership, for its major humanitarian role at the global level and its continuous coordination with the UNCR to alleviate hardships of crises-stricken peoples, namely the Syrians.

The UN official praised Kuwait's keenness, expressed in instructions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on honoring the commitments, made at the three international donations' conferences for Syria that had been held in Kuwait over the past three years.

The meeting between Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and Gutteress was attended by Undersecretary Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarallah, the director of the minister's office, Ambassador Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, the director of the international organizations Jassem Mubarak Al-Mubaraki and other ministry officials.
