Egypt to launch USD8b Suez Canal on August 6


(MENAFN) Egypt will open New Suez Canal on August 6, a project expected to chance an economy suffering double-digit unemployment to the better, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The army began working 10 months ago on the USD8 billion canal, to expand trade along the fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia.

The Canal is an important source of hard currency for Egypt, particularly since the 2011 uprising that scared off tourists and foreign investment.
