Iran, world powers 'resolve to expedite nuclear talks'

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Iran and the world powers group, P5+1, have resolved to expedite the on going nuclear talks in Vienna, the head of Iran's nuclear negotiating team, Hamid Baeidinejad, said Friday.

"During the meeting, member states reviewed topics discussed during the past sessions and expressed their serious resolve for expediting the ongoing negotiations," the official Iranian state news agency, IRNA, quoted Baeidinejad as saying.

IRNA said that a general meeting of deputy foreign ministers and representatives of Iran and the P5+1, co-chaired by Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Helga Schmidt, was also held Friday morning.

Baeidinejad, who is also a director at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said that Iran and P5+1 countries had shown 'serious willingness' to accelerate the talks.

Iran and the world powers group are working on a draft of the final nuclear agreement.

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Thursday that Russia was concerned about the pace of progress in the nuclear talks.

Ryabkov claimed negotiations had in fact slowed down with unresolved key issues and some important topics remaining in deadlock, such as the timing and scope of the removal of sanctions on Iran and the access of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Iran's nuclear and military facilities.

Iran and the P5+1 countries - China, Russia, U.S., U.K., France, plus Germany - reached a landmark framework deal on April 2 in the Swiss city of Lausanne over Tehran's uranium enrichment program and nuclear activities.

Both sides have until June 30 to reach a final agreement.
