Iraq- Tareq Aziz body not missing
(MENAFN- Arab News) BAGHDAD: An Iraqi official says the body of Tareq Aziz Saddam Hussein's former top aide who died last week in prison is still at Baghdad International Airport under heavy security and due to be flown to Amman.
The official from the Iraqi Aviation Authority said Friday that the body was supposed to be flown a day earlier but some delay occurred due to lack of some official documents. He did not elaborate.
Aziz's daughter Zeinab said on Thursday that the body of her father went missing at the airport while en route to Jordan for burial.
The body will be flown on a Royal Jordanian flight later said the official speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media.
Aziz died last Friday in the city of Nasiriyah where he was imprisoned awaiting execution. Iraqi forensics chief Zaid Ali Abbas says autopsy results Thursday confirmed that he died of a heart attack.
He was the highest-ranking Christian in Saddam's regime and was the international face of the Baath Party in Iraq. He was sentenced in October 2010 to hang for persecuting members of the Shiite religious parties that now dominate Iraq.
In recent months a number of other former Saddam loyalists have been suspected of working with Daesh in what is viewed as a Sunni alliance of convenience against the Shiite-led government in Baghdad.
