(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Aspire Zone Foundation yesterday announced the Banks Ramadan Futsal Championship (6X6) to be held for the first time as part of AZF's Ramadan programme in collaboration with Qatar Central Bank (QCB).
The tournament will be held in the indoor pitch of Aspire Dome after Taraweeh prayers for 10 days - from June 22 until July 2.
"We are delighted to announce a new initiative from Aspire Zone to increase the number of beneficiaries of our physical activity and sport programmes.
"This is the fourth year we are organising a sports festival during Ramadan, and public demand increases every year for more festivities," Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, said Director, Marketing, AZF, told a press conference yesterday.
"We were able to convert Ramadan into vigour and vitality during the past three years and here we are this year. We organise special Ramadan championship for banks whose work is mainly official in nature. They need us to provide what suits them to encourage them to carry out their works during the holy month.
"I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to QCB for response and interaction with us. It helped us communicate with banks to register their employees for the tournament and I wish participating teams success." AZF is taking care of organisational aspects of the tournament in terms of stadiums, referees and regulatory procedures.
"We thank AZF for continuing to promote sports among all members of the community and provide innovative programmes to encourage them to change their physical lifestyles. As soon as Aspire Zone officials contacted us, we were enthusiastic to participate and found a high demand from bankers to take part in the tournament.
"We hope this will be the beginning of a partnership that extends to activities throughout the year and not just Ramadan," said Ali Al Athba, Public Relations Department, QCB.
A draw for games was also held during the press conference, attended by representatives of banks participating in the tournament - Qatar National Bank; Masraf Al Rayyan; Barwa Bank; Qatar International Islamic Bank; International Bank of Qatar; Commercial Bank; Doha Bank; and Qatar Development Bank.
