Cyclone storms to title in OFBC Friday League Season 4
(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: Cyclone may have lost the weekly battles against Taurus but won the war when it clinched the championship crown in the OFBC Friday Morning League 5+1 Season 4 at the Ice Land Bowling Center here.
For the second straight conference the top seeded team came up empty-handed and the loss was particularly bitter pill to swallow for the No. 1 Taurus which had dominated the tournament with authority only to fall short in the biggest stage of its campaign.
Incidentally it was the same Taurus and No. 1 team that lost to second seed Velocity Strikers in Season 3.
The seedings went according to form with No . 2 Cyclone gaining a crack at Taurus for the title.
The stepladder stage in the 16th and final week of the competition started with a knockout match between shootout winners D' Luf's Strikers and Krau Thai Restaurant. Danny Atubang's Luf's Strikers won 831-794 to advance to the second match of the stepladder vs. No. 3 finalist Selections.
Vov Stone's Selections despite a disadvantage in team handicap 112-131 prevailed against Luf's 868-842 thanks in large part to Jhun Ejanda and Jude Vivero who rolled 192 and 176 to go with the 169 by Thea Busico 167 by Xtine Stone and 164 by Lexter Atienza.
Against Cyclone however Selections with a plus 49 in handicap did not have a chance getting beat 808-769. Team captain Bash Langa led from the front for Cyclone on 198 with Tito Cruz on 173 Richard Junio on 1562 Fatima Jintarat on 150 and Tommy Kamal on135.
In the two games series with handicap championship match Taurus carried a plus 26 per game advantage in handicap over Cyclone one of only two teams to have beaten Taurus in the double round robin eliminations.
Cyclone with an 89 handicap per game to 63 for Taurus smoked the lanes to win the first game mainly behind the efforts of Junio Langa and Cruz who shot scratch games of 190 179 and 170.
The decisive match was not even close Cyclone managed by Mr. and Mrs. Tam and Fatima Jintarat carding 1804 pinfalls as against 1721 by Taurus which missed the services of veteran Hadi Pacheco and Regino Mendoza.
Langa and Junio shot totals of 387 and 384 at the forefront of Cyclone Fatima added 354 Kamal 352 and Cruz 327.
For Taurus the scorers were Fedelyn Bustinera 385 Edwin Ronquillo 356 Jun Pamintuan 350 Olie Jacinto 330 and Ric Nangel 300.
Zikato Construction through Operations Manager Albert Zuniga sponsored the tournament.
