Merkel hopes for progress on Greece


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) German Chancellor Angela Merkel Thursday said that she and French President Francois Hollande had a "very intensive exchange of views " with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras late Wednesday at the sidelines of an EU-Latin American summit in Brussels .

Merkel told journalist as she arrived for the final day of the summit that it was agreed that Greece will continue to work with the three institutions (European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund) in the coming days to clarify all open questions.

"I hope that it will bring the necessary progress. Every day counts," she added.

Greece's international lenders want Athens to adopt more unpopular economic measures to release the last 7.2 billion euros remaining from the EU-IMF bailout programme which is to expire on June 30.
