Kuwait- Intellectual Property Society warns from bogus commodities


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Chairman of Kuwait Intellectual Property Rights Society Sheikh Salman Al-Dawood Al-Sabah on Thursday stressed on the importance of spreading awareness in the society on the dangers of bogus commodities on consumers' lives, especially the cars' spare parts, and shoes painted with artificial polish.

Sheikh Salman added in remarks to KUNA that the society offered a number of suggestions on that matter, and works hard to coordinate between the public and private sectors as well stakeholders to stop the spread of bogus commodities, and reduce dumping the markets with such goods.

He stressed on the importance of establishing laboratories to inspect the food and medicines in all governorates, with the international standards, regarding the risk such substances pose on the lives of children.

A number of medical products carry names similar to famous commercial brands, he said, noting need to support for brands of good reputation, capable of handling the responsibility of mal-manufacturing, he said.

He hailed in the important role of media in spreading awareness about the danger of duplicated goods, especially the food products that have no notes of its ingredients, as well as the un-approved cars' spare parts.

He called for strict punishment on violators of quality standards, set by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as Kuwait is a member state.

Fighting bogus goods will attract capitals to the country from various parts of the world, which would serve transforming it into an important commercial and financial center in the region.

Kuwait is a pioneer country in joining WIPO, as it officially signed WIPO's treaty in April 1998, and approved a number of international agreements on protecting intellectual property since then.
