US reiterates commitment to Lebanon after ISIL border attack


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US expressed its commitment to Lebanon and "making sure that the Lebanese armed forces have the capacity to defend Lebanon's territory and its borders" on Wednesday, after Hezballah clashed with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters on its border with Syria.

"Our delivery of the two missiles is a part of that (commitment). Also part of that is the determination on the possible foreign military sale of the A-29 aircraft. So these are part of our long-term engagement with Lebanon and our support for the Lebanese Government and for the Lebanese armed forces," affirmed State Department Director of Press Relations Jeff Rathke to reporters.

"We constantly remain in dialogue with Lebanon in order to, make sure that we are responsive to their requirements and we take that commitment very seriously," he concluded.
