Kuwait- Parl't, Gov't hold special meeting to discuss security challenges


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The National Assembly (Parliament) and the government held a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss the security situation in the country and the state bodies' readiness to deal with security emergencies.

In statements to reporters, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim underscored the importance of maintaining national unity and enhancing security agencies' readiness to overcome the growing the regional political and security challenges and their impacts and repercussions on Kuwait.

He added that the meeting, which was held upon a request from the Parliament, attended by over 30 MPs and five cabinet ministers: namely First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah; State Minster for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah; Oil Minister and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Omair; and Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaacoub Al-Sanaa.

At the advent of the meeting, the Foreign Minister made a detailed presentation about the most significant and rapid developments in the region in the recent period, especially those related to the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, as well as the Iran's nuclear file and the growing terror threat, Al-Ghanim stated.

He noted that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled also informed the conferees about Kuwait's foreign policy approach and stance towards each of these files and the expected consequences of the recent developments on Kuwait.

Then the Interior Minister apprised the conferees of the security agencies' readiness to face emergencies or security threats, He said, adding that Sheikh Mohammad acquainted the attendants about the main features of the security agencies' plan for the coming six months.

Al-Ghanim pointed out the MPs commented on ministers' presentations and expressed their views about the different issues.

The lawmakers thanked security people on their relentless and faithful efforts to protect the dear homeland, Al-Ghanim said.

He unveiled that the conferees emphasized the importance of three points: boosting the capabilities and readiness of security agencies, strengthening the national unity, and beefing up cooperation between the Legislative and Executive powers, especially in issues related to the national security.

Al-Ghanim stressed that the lawmakers are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting, particularly the Interior Ministry's planned measures to counter the growing security threats.
