(MENAFN- QNA) A seminar of the role of GCC media in dealing with crises was held at Sheraton Doha Hotel on Wednesday evening as part of activities of the 3rd Gulf Media Forum organized in the context of the 23rd meeting of GCC information ministers, held this morning.
The seminar was attended by Chairman of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Hamad bin Thamir Al Thani, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdurrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdurrahaman bin Hamad Al Thani, Bahraini Information Minister Isa bin Abdurrahman Al Hammadi, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Cultural and Media Affairs Khalid bin Salem Al-Ghassani, a number of ranking officials and GCC media men and journalists.
The seminar, which was moderated by Editor of Qatari Ash-Sharq Newspaper Jaber Al-Harami, was addressed by Dr. Mohammed Al-Misfir, a political science professor at Qatar University, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tuwaijri, Dean of the Faculty of Education at King Saud University, former member of the Shura Council in Saudi Arabia and Chairman of International Justice Organization and Dr. Abdullah Shayeji, political science professor and Head of the Faculty of Political Science at Kuwait University.
The seminar reviewed the role played by the GCC media times of crisis since the invasion of Kuwait through Iraq war (Desert Storm) and until the Determination Storm.
Participants stressed that the media since the invasion of Kuwait and in the early 90s of the last century has seen a quantum leap in its coverage of events, especially after the emergence of independent media competitors that forced the media, especially the official ones, to keep pace with the freedom in private Arab channels, newspapers and broadcasting services.
