Kuwait- Most Brace For Rising Temp As Only 16 Pc Plan To Travel

(MENAFN- Arab Times) As the country braces itself for another scorching summer, in this week's Arab Times online poll, readers responded to popular options for beating the seasonal highs with the majority of respondents stating that they had no choice but to bear the onslaught of rising temperatures. While the Kuwait Meteorological Centre has been forecasting maximum temperatures of below 50C over the past few weeks, many citizens and expatriates perceive temperatures to be much higher. 46% of respondents were dismal about their chances of escaping the heat this summer. "I usually travel with my family in December which means that we have to power through the heat," an expatriate shared. "It is impossible to stand outside for a few minutes.

The heat is unbearable. This country would be unlivable without air conditioning," another reader bemoaned while also complaining about the lack of shaded walkways in the built environment.

"Summers are always tough. My job in sales entails a lot of driving around and moving from place to place, it is such a challenge to appear presentable and avoid sweating. I'm just counting the days until the end of summer," another reader shared.

Many expressed the hope that employers would cut short working hours for those who work outdoors; especially for those in the construction industry while 35% of respondents felt that staying indoors during the peak afternoon hours would be a good strategy to avoid the heat. "The weather is extreme only in the afternoon; it is quite bearable the rest of the day. So if you stay indoors during those hours, you shouldn't have reason to complain," a voter remarked. "The heat is so severe already that the moment I step out, my nose bleeds. I will just have to stay indoors and wait for school to start in September," a teenager told the Arab Times.

Posts going around on social media predict temperatures to soar to record highs during Ramadan which has caused alarm and anxiety among many in Kuwait. Only 16% of respondents shared that they would be taking a vacation this year during the summer. "The best perk of being a teacher in Kuwait is being able to travel during summer vacation; as soon as school is out, I travel back to the US and spend my summer at home." 2% of respondents also hoped for dusty weather to bring down temperatures. "I think dusty weather will bring some relief but I really hope we don't have many humid days this year," a reader expressed.
