GM dismisses Fiat Chrysler merger talks

(MENAFN) General Motors chief executive dismissed talks of a merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, suggesting the US automaker giant doesn't need to boost size through acquisition, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

"We've had a merger with ourselves in the past couple of years. We have scale. We're in the top tier," she told reporters when asked about overtures from the FCA head.

Last month FCA head, who engineered the combination of Fiat and Chrysler, said he expects more consolidation in the auto industry, but did not confirm at the time that he proposed talks with GM.

"We're going to sell more than 10 million vehicles across the globe. We have scale," GM chief executive said, adding: "We want to do what's right for our shareholders. That's our focus."
