Japan Hopes to Improve Ties with China, South Korea

(MENAFN- QNA) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he wants to improve Japan's ties with China and South Korea steadily through dialogue with their leaders.

Abe spoke to an (NHK) World Radio reporter before leaving Germany for Japan. The prime minister attended the Group of 7 summit held in Germany.

Referring to his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in November and April, Abe stressed the importance of repeating dialogue, noting that the April talks felt more relaxed than the ones before.

Abe said the 2 leaders agreed at their meetings to improve bilateral relations based on the idea of strategic and mutually beneficial ties.

He said reality is now moving in this direction, and that he hopes to strengthen the trend.

Abe said he believes the leaders of Japan and South Korea should hold dialogue and deepen mutual understanding as well, even though various issues are pending between the neighbors. He said he hopes to build ties with South Korean President Park Geun-hye that are similar to his ties with Xi.

Referring to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank now being launched at the initiative of China, Abe said Japan, as a country in Asia, will work to help make it a worthy institution for the region.

He added that while the G7 countries are divided into those that have pledged participation and those that have not, they all agreed to cooperate in creating a valuable body.
