Turkey treats Syrian wounded

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The family of a nine-year-old Syrian boy who suffered horrific burns in the war-torn country have praised Turkey for giving them shelter.

Muhammed Zerzur from Aleppo has endured years of operations in Turkey to recover from burns suffered in an airstrike.

Muhammed lost one of his fingers in addition to the bodily burns in the attack which happened more than two years ago.

His father, Halil Zerzur, 43, speaking to Anadolu Agency, said his family took shelter in Turkey as his son had no chance of getting treatment in Syria.

"Everything in Syria is chaotic. We did not know what to do after my son got hurt."

Their family fled Aleppo for Hama and before going to the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib. From there they crossed over into Turkey - just some of the thousands of Syrian people who have come here to escape the fighting.

"I came to Reyhanli [a town on the Turkey-Syria border in Hatay] with my family as the medical possibilities were insufficient in Syria.

"Luckily my other children are healthy. Muhammed's right arm, belly and leg have been burned and one of his fingers was ripped off due to the bombs falling down near our home", his father says.

"He has been receiving treatment in Turkey for a year and gets better day-by-day", he added.

"My son could have died if Turkey had not helped him."
