Pan Arab champions of Imagine Cup announced Oman wins second place


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Three teams T2 (Tunisia) BCR (Palestine) and Freedom Fragrance (UAE) will be representing the Arab world in the Imagine Cup 2015 finals which will be held in Seattle US from July 27 to 31.

The teams secured the first place in three categories: Games Innovation and World Citizenship. Oman's Team Kitabi won the second place in the World Citizenship category for its project Readathon - a revolutionary mobile application that allows users to read books online in a smart marathon-like manner.

The names were announced by Microsoft together with the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) Tamkeen and eGovernment Authority stated a press release. Team BCR from Palestine was declared the Arab World Champion and was also given a special award.

It won a one-week internship at Tech Wadi Silicon Valley. The event held under the patronage of Prince Salman bin Hamad al Khalifa Crown Prince  of Bahrain Deputy Supreme Commander and chairman of the Economic Development Board saw a host of dignitaries and delegates from Bahrain and the Arab World.

Khalid al Rumaihi chief executive EDB commended the winners. 'We are very pleased to support initiatives such as this which offers young people in Bahrain the opportunity to develop their knowledge and exchange their experiences with peers from different Arab countries.'

Meanwhile thanking Micrsoft and its partners a member from Team BCR said 'We are delighted to have won the Pan-Arab semifinals securing our place in the worldwide finals in Seattle. We cannot believe we were awarded the special prize and will spend time in Silicon Valley gaining an insight into the life of developers. The competition was tough but we kept our focus on winning and representing Palestine in the next round.'

A part of Microsoft YouthSpark initiative Imagine Cup empowers students to use their creativity to solve the world's toughest problems through technology as well as provides the opportunity to develop an idea create a product and set a clear business plan that will take their product to market.

Thirty-six teams from 13 countries in Middle East and North Africa region competed for the Imagine Cup 2015 Pan Arab Champion title.
