(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal received an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Land, Water and Environmental Management from Hashemite University (HU) on Monday, in recognition of the his role in building bridges of communications based upon mutual respect with countries throughout the world, along with his many local achievements and successful participation in Arab and international initiatives.
HU President Prof. Kamal Bani-Hani handed Prince Hassan the honorary degree, along with the University's shield.
In his speech delivered during the ceremony, His Highness said: "The homeland is more important than receiving words of thanks and appreciation," noting that, "any honor is a tribute to the country, through which we accomplish achievements." The Prince said: "We are partners in the global humanity and believe in multiculturalism and diversity with the presence of Islam and a multiplicity of interpretations." Prince Hassan further noted: "The well-managment of resources is good governance, and managing our societies well is a human social issue." Further, he reaffirmed that protecting natural and environmental resources requires knowledge, integration of systems overlapping subjects (water - energy - humanity- environment) with the adoption of scientific approaches to improve environmental regulations and integrating them into future programs and plans.
He asserted that protecting and managing resources is the only guarantor of adequate supplies of water, food and dignity for future generations.
The Prince also praised the Hashemite University for focusing on multiple scientific and academic research programs concerned with the development and protection of natural resources and the environment, as well as their contributions towards civil society in areas related to the environment, which serves local areas and the entire Kingdom.
