Burundi electoral commission proposes new poll dates

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Burundi's electoral commission proposed new dates for presidential and parliamentary elections, after polls were
postponed because of anti-government protests, dpa reported.

Parliamentary and local government elections will be held on June 26
- the date initially set for presidential elections.

A president will now be elected on July 15, followed by senatorial
elections on July 24, the commission's chair, Pierre Claver
Ndayicariye, proposed late Monday.

The new timetable will, however, still need the endorsement of
President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose bid to seek a third term in office
launched nationwide, bloody protests in the East African nation.
