Special TV channel to telecast 19th Dubai International Holy Quran Award


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Dubai International Holy Quran Award, DIHQA, is all set to launch a special satellite TV channel to cover and telecast the activities and events of the spiritually uplifting competition.

The announcement was made in a press conference held today at the headquarters of the award at the same time as announcing the details of the lecture programme and Islamic Personality of the Year prize.

The DIHQA organising committee, chaired by Chancellor Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, said the activities of the contest will last for 20 days this year, from the 1st to the 20th day of Ramadan.

Bu Melha, who is also adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for cultural and humanitarian affairs, said they were grateful to Almighty Allah for giving them this precious opportunity to serve the Holy Quran and its memorisers.

"The 11-category award has been gracefully founded, supported and sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, since its inception in AH1418/1997."

However, the door is wide open for generous contributions from both public and private entities to co-sponsor the diverse activities and events of the multi-branch award running all the year long, he added.

"Whoever wishes to take part in any contest or activity of the remarkable international initiative is more than welcome", he affirmed, extending sincere appreciation to all supporting institutions.

Bu Melha stated that the 19th edition of the award will see a rich cultural programme of lectures in Arabic, Bengali, Malayalam and Tamil at three different venues.

"Open lectures will be given at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, women only lectures will be delivered at the Women's Renaissance Society and the Indian Academic School, Nahda, will host foreign communities lectures."

The sessions of the international Holy Quran competition is to start on Ramadan 08 and continue for 11 days. "So far, 82 countries have confirmed their participation in the contest, and the number is expected to hit 85."

"Some public relations sub-committees have been formed to take care of scholars and participants' transport, accommodation," he said, adding, "We have agreed with the Dubai Protocol Department to provide luxury cars for dignitary guests while the Roads and Transport Authority will furnish a shuttle service for the public and contestants to and from the award venue at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry."

Bu Melha said that the organising committee has produced two special TV and radio commercials on the 19th edition of the Award. "A satellite TV channel is also to broadcast the award activities on ArabSat and NileSat in cooperation with Dubai Media Inc."

He said that the competition unit has decided on 500 questions for the qualifying and final tests. "Each and every contestant needs to clear the initial tests to be eligible for final examinations in public."

The members of the arbitration committee include Sheikh Mohammed Tamim Al Zuabi, Syria, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamud bin Humaid, Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Jamal Farooq, Egypt, Sheikh Mohammed Shaqrawan, Algeria, Sheikh Jassim Al Amiri, UAE, and Sheikh Sherzad Abdurrahman, Iraq.
