Turkish women win record 96 seats in parliament


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkish women have succeeded in winning a record 96 seats during yesterday's parliamentary elections, representing 18 percent of the 550-seat house.

Turkish media said the representation of women in the parliament increased by four percent compared with previous house, or one female MP for every six male lawmakers.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is represented by 42 women, while 31 female MPs represent the people's party.

Nineteen female MPs represent the secular republican party while the nationalist party is represented by four women.
