(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) EU energy ministers met Monday in Luxembourg and discussed the EU's energy security strategy, the energy union and international energy relations.
EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Canete, told a press conference after the meeting that the EU needs to diversify its energy sources and suppliers.
"It also means developing new partnerships with key producing and transit countries in the Mediterranean region and Central Asia," he said.
He explained that the aim of the Energy Security Strategy is to develop the EU's resilience to shocks and disruptions of energy supplies, and over the longer term to reduce its dependency on particular fuels, energy suppliers and routes.
Meanwhile, the European Parliament is to discuss the EU energy security in a debate on Tuesday.
