(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Greece's Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis called for a joint compromise with donors to solve the debt crisis, German media reported on Monday.
According to a report by Spiegel Online, Varoufakis said a "jointly developed, planned and agreed solution" had to be found, after a meeting with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble here also on Monday.
"These are difficult moments for the European Union and in particular for the euro zone," said Varoufakis, adding that it was the duty of elected politicians to assume their responsibility at a high level in order to reach an agreement.
"This is absolutely important for the integrity of the euro zone, absolutely essential for the European Union," he said.
Meanwhile, Varoufakis spoke of a productive, friendly conversation with Schaeuble.
"We have a common understanding of the problem," he said.
The meeting was very useful to consolidate the process of the recent weeks and days, and to achieve a final solution in the ongoing talks, Varoufakis said.
According to the media report, Varoufakis will speak at a panel discussion on the future of Greece in the European Union hosted by the Hans Boeckler Foundation on Monday evening.
