Real estate firm board members jailed, fined in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Doha court of misdemeanour has sentenced five former board members of a company to one month in jail each and imposed a fine of QR3,000 on them for taking control of documents and equipment pertaining to shareholders in an unauthorised manner, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The sentence was passed in absentia against three persons while the other two were present in court.

They used to be board members of a real estate company. At one point, they decided to take hold of all the documents of the company, including shareholders' agreements and those of other financial transactions. Further, they took hold of the company's equipment and assets and sold them off.

Regarding the staff, the convicts transferred their sponsorship to others and shifted the headquarters of the company to a smaller office without proper authorisation.

This was deemed by the court as a move that was detrimental to the financial position of the company as well as the monetary interests of stakeholders.
