Cuban Hospital is 'providing an integrated system of care' in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Cuban Hospital (TCH) under the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is providing evidence-based care, a senior official said.

Women and families living in and around Dukhan increasingly prefer to use the maternity services and are greatly benefited by several advantages such as convenience and shorter waiting times offered by TCH, Prof David Barlow, HMC's director of women's services and chairman of obstetrics and gynaecology services at Women's Hospital said.

Barlow noted that Women's Hospital deliveries decreased from 18,000 in 2013 to 16,000 in 2014 due to an increase in deliveries at HMC's secondary hospitals, including TCH, Al Khor Hospital and Al Wakra Hospital.

The strategy to provide expectant mothers with additional options for care has led to 25% of all babies born across the HMC network being delivered at these general hospitals.

TCH is staffed with experienced healthcare professionals from Cuba and serves the growing population of Dukhan and surrounding communities. Its services are being supported by HMC's main Women's Hospital in partnership with the Women and Newborn Health Network initiative.

TCH offers obstetrical and gynaecological services ranging from outpatient to emergency, surgical and neonatology care, providing an integrated system of care that is based on international best practices.

Barlow said: "HMC is dedicated to providing effective maternal and newborn care in a seamless continuum that extends beyond the first few precious days after childbirth.

"We continue to invest in the development of clinical programmes and staff in all our facilities, including TCH, to ensure that we always deliver the most up-to-date, evidence-based practices and provide expectant mothers and their families with a positive experience."

Philip Lowen, chief executive officer of TCH, said: "We are working closely with Women's Hospital to realise HMC's promise of the safest, most effective and most compassionate care for every patient who comes to our hospital.

"HMC's reputation for excellence is driven by its team of dedicated healthcare professionals who are all committed to providing quality support to our patients throughout the maternal, newborn and child health continuum of care, and work together with families to promote their long-term health and well-being."

To book an appointment at the hospital, a referral or letter from a primary care doctor on the clinic letterhead can be faxed to +974-40157770 or scanned and e-mailed to Referral_Cuban@hamad.qa

A member of the bookings team will contact the patient within one-two working days. Patients who require more highly specialised care may be required to visit Women's Hospital or other appropriate specialist centres within the HMC network.
