Doha to host inaugural power summit in Oct

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The inaugural edition of the Power Qatar Summit, incorporating the successful Solar Qatar Summit, will take place at the Ritz-Carlton, Doha, on October 26 and 27.

It will be Qatar's only power generation, transmission and distribution event, according to a statement.

Held under the patronage of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and produced by global conference organisers Expotrade, the summit will showcase the latest technology in renewable power and energy solutions worldwide and highlight the way forward for power generation in Qatar.

Qatar's position among the world's largest producers of natural gas makes it a logical choice for a summit that will bring together the world's leading experts in the power industry and government officials. The summit will offer insights into the tremendous potential in Qatar for power generation, distribution and transmission, the statement notes.

The Power Qatar Summit will feature speakers and panellists who will discuss topics pertaining to intelligent power systems, water desalination powered by solar energy, HVDC technology, solar energy cooling technologies for the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums and power distribution with intelligent transformer substations, to name a few.

Some of the confirmed industry experts include Dr Mohamed Khaleel, executive director at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), Qatar Foundation; Dr Amer al-Shamary al-Adhadh, economic development adviser, Ministry of Economy and Commerce; Dr Abdelkader Bousselham, scientist, grid integration, QEERI; Dr Ilias Belharouak, chief scientist, energy storage, QEERI; Rutu Dave, energy specialist, World Bank; and Mohamed Nagib Omara, technical adviser to the Kahramaa president.

One of the engines powering Qatar National Vision 2030 forward is power generation in all forms, especially solar, natural gas and renewable energy. The increasing demands of a growing population have led to a tremendous demand for power, with rising consumption rates in a short span of time. The logical solution is renewable energy. But this has to be supported with the right infrastructure, technology and solutions, viewed against the overarching element of sustainability.

The summit is ideally placed to offer the best platform to showcase the opportunities on offer, alongside the technology and solutions to power Qatar's future growth, the statement adds.
