Injaz students shadow workers at ExxonMobil, Qatar
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A group of 20 students, mainly from Qatar University, spent an entire work day observing ExxonMobil Qatar employees perform their duties last week as part of Injaz Qatar's Job Shadow programme.
Students participated in the programme at both the main office and ExxonMobil Research facilities located in Qatar Science & Technology Park.
The Job Shadow programme introduces students to careers through one-day, on-site mentoring experiences at corporations. It is an "authentic, real-world experience" for the students, who are required to attend one of Injaz's work-readiness initiatives before taking part in the programme.
The programme meets the needs of a diverse group of students by providing experiential learning sessions in work-readiness education and career planning. It is typically offered to Injaz Qatar students who have taken other Injaz programmes and/or as a reward for students who have performed well in some of the other activities the organisation offers.
"Students who spent the day with us at ExxonMobil Qatar witnessed first-hand the work environment, saw occupational skills in practice and got a better understanding of our work in the oil and gas industry. I am extremely pleased to have transferred some of my career knowledge to Reem al-Saeed, the student who shadowed me, and hope that she will consider a career in community development," said Bana al-Moftah, community adviser for ExxonMobil Qatar.
"I had the opportunity to gather career-related information skills and witness first-hand the main responsibilities associated with the community adviser position I shadowed. I also learned more about the interests and skills that are needed for successful employment in this role and would like to thank ExxonMobil Qatar and Injaz Qatar for this opportunity," said al-Saeed.
In support of the increased participation of Qatari nationals in the workforce as stipulated in Qatar National Vision 2030, ExxonMobil Qatar promotes organisations such as Injaz Qatar and offers scholarships, internships and summer programmes geared towards giving students the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in the national workforce.
