Qatar Participates in Arab Human Rights Committee Meeting


(MENAFN- QNA) The 38th session of the Arab Human Rights Permanent Committee opened today at the Arab League Headquarters under Member of Oman's National Rights Human Rights Committee Dr. Mohamed bin Suleiman Al-Rashidi with representatives of Arab human rights committees participating.

Assistant Director of the Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Department HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Youssuf bin Jabor Al Thani is representing the State of Qatar at the meeting.

Al-Rahsidi underlined the significance of the meeting which will discuss a host of important issues foremost of which being the Arab League General-Secretariat's report on measures taken to implement recommendations of the Committee's previous session, in addition to an Arab plan aimed to promote human rights' culture and the Arab human rights strategy.

He told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting that the five-day session will also discuss conditions of prisoners in Israeli jails, bodies of Palestinian martyrs held by Israeli occupation authorities at Al Arqam graveyard, stressing the importance of that issue given that Palestine is the Arab's prime cause.

Al-Rashidi pointed out to the constructive cooperation between the Arab Human Rights Committee and the Arab League General Secretariat with regard to briefing on developments in the occupied Arab territories to Arab League offices worldwide.

Responding to a question on how to promote the human rights' culture in the shadow of the situation the region is going through, Al-Rashidi confirmed that the committee is carrying a study on all matters related to Arab human rights with the participation of representatives of all Arab countries including countries going through unrest, wars and conflicts.

The committee will study Israel's human rights violations in the occupied Arab territories, the Arab Charter on Huma Rights, updating of the Arab agreement on organizing conditions of refugees in Arab countries, the proposed amendments to the permanent regulations of the Arab Human Rights Committee and incrimination of disdain of religions as one of human rights.
