Saudi- 4 soldiers slain as ground offensive by rebels repulsed
(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia repulsed a ground offensive by forces loyal to ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthi militias on Friday.
The attack that lasted from dawn till noon prompted Saudi forces to fire artillery and launch Apache attack helicopters.
According to an SPA statement scores of Yemeni terrorists were killed.
Four Saudi soldiers were martyred. They were identified as Capt. Nasser bin Khalid Al-Atawi Lt. Abdullah bin Yahiya Al-Faifi Corp. Hasan bin Ahmed Al-Nashiri and Pvt. Tayeb Ali Hassan Manqari.
'The armed forces repelled the offensive that was aimed at penetrating the border in an attempt to revive their flagging morale' said the SPA report.
'Scores of infiltrators were killed in a fierce battle that lasted from dawn to noon. Our forces confronted the shelling of the enemy with bravery and destroyed its vehicles and equipment involved in the aggression.'
Sources said more than 30 members of the Houthi militia were killed in Aden Taiz and Baida and that the tribal committees in Marib regained control over a strategic location to the west of the city which is surrounded by Houthis from four sides in a bid to control oil and energy resources and secure the road to Hadramuth.
The coalition air forces targeted Houthi positions and their camps in Sanaa Dhamar and Aden.
