Abu Dhabi taxis to have CCTV cameras

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Based on the commitment to improve services provided to the community and to provide the highest security and safety standards, the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars has announced the launch of its project to install CCTV security cameras inside all taxis in Abu Dhabi.

The initiative will enable the centre's specialists to monitor taxi journeys in order to ensure the safety of both the driver and the passenger, and will also play an important role in raising the efficiency of the process of giving back the lost and found items to their respective owners.

The roll out stage will include the installation of cameras in a selection of 100 taxis that vary in type, to ensure its quality and effectiveness. The second phase will be implemented within a year of the start of the roll out phase and will include the installation of security cameras across the entire taxi fleet.

Speaking on the announcement, Mohamed Darwish Al Qemzi, General Manager of the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars, said, "This project comes within the framework of the centres' efforts to regulate and monitor services provided to the public and to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality. These efforts are in line with our strategic objectives to have excellent services offered that meet the future needs of the emirate."
