LNG will play a major role in a sustainable energy future: Qatargas

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) will play a major role in achieving sustainable sources of energy in future due to its inherent benefits, said a senior official of Qatargas at an international forum today.

"LNG will play a major role in a sustainable energy future as it represents an attractive alternative to unsustainable, higher priced, higher polluting, and less reliable energy options," said Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, CEO of Qatargas in his keynote speech at the ongoing 26th World Gas Conference (WGC 2015) in Paris.

Sheikh Khalid noted that LNG is a core pillar of a sustainable energy future.

Qatargas has presented several key papers at the Conference which takes place on a triennial basis and conclude Friday in the presence of 4,000 industry professionals from across the globe.

In addition, Alaa Abu Jbara, Qatargas chief operating officer for commercial and shipping, presented a paper titled "Fundamental Drivers of Global Supply and Demand: A Qatargas Perspective." The paper explained how the fundamentals of favorable demographics, economic growth, energy demand growth, and rising levels of environmental awareness, leave LNG uniquely positioned among the world's primary energy sources.

Another paper titled "Role of LNG Portfolio Optimization in a Rapidly Changing Market Environment" established that Portfolio optimization is an essential tool to meet demand where and when needed. The presentation described how Qatargas has redeployed its portfolio by increasing supplies to Asia to meet the growing demand and reducing supplies to Europe and America following the drop in demand.

"LNG € A Clean Fuel for a Global Sustainable Energy Future and the Role of Qatargas" was the title of a paper that highlighted the attributes of LNG as the fuel for the future and some of the initiatives Qatargas has taken to support the development and long term sustainability of LNG markets.

Europe's current energy today and why LNG is needed for the future clean energy needs of Europe was the subject of a paper titled "What does it take for Europe to attract LNG".

Hundreds of conference delegates visited the Qatargas stand at the exhibition held in conjunction with the conference, reports QNA.

Established in 1984, Qatargas is the largest LNG producing company in the world with an annual LNG production capacity of 42 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
