Flash floods kill 9 people in SW Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least nine people died and dozens others went missing when flash-floods and torrential rains hit the Khuzdar district of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, said officials on Thursday.

A senior administrative official, Deputy Commissioner Khuzdar in a statement to media confirmed that nine dead bodies have been recovered and rescue operation is underway to recover the missing persons in flood hit Wadh Sarona area of Khuzdar. He further said that two children were among the dead and torrential rains made the remote region inaccessible for rescue teams. The administrative officials expressed fear that the death toll in the flash flood may rise.

Earlier last year, floods affected around one million people across Pakistan and a recent research on floods suggested that as many as 2.7 million people could be affected yearly by river-floods in Pakistan by 2030.
