17 airstrikes target ISIL in Syria, Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US-led coalition against ISIL launched a total of 17 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR).

In Syria, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft launched eight airstrikes, as outlined in the statement: near Al Hasakah, where "four airstrikes struck two ISIL large tactical units, destroying seven ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL vehicle"; near Ar Raqqah, where "two airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroying six ISIL excavators and an ISIL vehicle"; and near Kobani, where "two airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and two ISIL mortar positions, destroying an ISIL vehicle." In Iraq, attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft launched nine airstrikes, as outlined in the statement: near Baghdad, where "one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroying an ISIL structure"; and near Bayji, where "three airstrikes struck land features denying ISIL a tactical advantage, destroying an ISIL VBIED (vehicle-borne improvised explosive device)".

Near Mosul, where "one airstrike had inconclusive results"; near Ramadi,
where "one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroying an ISIL excavator"; and near Sinjar, where "two airstrikes struck an ISIL large tactical unit, destroying three ISIL heavy machine guns, three ISIL buildings and two ISIL vehicles".

Near Tal Afar, where the day's final airstrike "struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroying two ISIL heavy machine guns and two ISIL buildings." CJTF-OIR did not indicate which partner nations participated in this round of airstrikes, and typically does not reveal casualty figures.
