Iraqi parl't speaker calls for int'l cooperation to fight ISIL

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Salim Abdullah Al-Jabouri, met here Thursday the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz to discuss the situation in Iraq.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Schulz said the meeting was a big opportunity to exchange views on the difficult situation in Iraq. "I have expressed our determination and solidarity towards the Iraqi people and our full support, within our means, to the Iraqi Parliament," he said.

"Terrorism of ISIL not only concerns Iraq or the Iraqi people but it's an attack on all of us," said Schulz.

"Countries with problems such as those Iraq has can't leave behind their difficulties, can't become a peaceful region without courageous men and women and you - also the Primer Minister of your country - but you personally, too, my dear colleague, you are an symbol of the courage of Iraqi leaders," he noted.

On his part, Al Jabouri said he was in Brussels to launch the 'Humanitarian Response Plan', in a joint initiative by the United Nations and the European Union, to address the problem of the displaced and the victims of war in Iraq.

"ISIL is not only an enemy of humanity, of citizens, ISIL is also an enemy of Civilisation, of property and it aims at the whole world," he stated.

"We want to fight against ISIL. We want to eliminate them with a cultural war, a security war, a military war but also with a political answer to it, with a political solution. We are going to ask the world for help and we hope that we will get the help of the whole world to fight them," he added.

Later, Al Jabouri also met Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative, but they made no statements to the press.
