IICO to rebuild two Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Kuwait-based International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) Director General Salem Hamada announced Thursday that IICO will rebuild two Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon, which caught fire Thursday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday a refugee camp in Beqaa, eastern Lebanon, was burnt and six refugees were killed and scores others injured. In a statement to KUNA Thursday, Hamada said, after a meeting with Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Darbas that "the organization considered camp fire as an emergence case and take a quick decision to rebuild it and to provide aid to displaced refugees." Hamada added that IICO already began providing aid to those displaced and affected by the fire following the incident.

IICO chief said that the organization will also rebuild a second burnt camp for the Syrian refugees in northern Lebanon, pointing out that his delegation will pay field visits to camps, particularly those affected by the fire.

Hamada said that the restoration of the camps comes in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon, conveying thanks by Minister Darbas to Kuwaiti efforts in this regard.

Hamada stressed that the swift action taken by ICCO is due to help displaced Syrians.

According to UN statistics, more than one million displaced Syrians in Lebanon, where a large proportion of them in random camps spread over various Lebanese regions.
