Jordanian foreign minister, British counterpart discuss relations, region


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, and his British counterpart Philip Hammond, on Wednesday, discussed bilateral relations and partnership in addition to the current situation in the Middle East, especially international efforts to address the threat of terrorism and its gangs, and efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

During talks in London, Judeh reaffirmed Jordan's firm stance against terrorism, as well as its efforts to counter extremist ideology, stressing the importance of coordination with the international community to confront terrorism and extremist thinking at all levels.

With regard to efforts to restore peace, the minister re-emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts of international stakeholders to create suitable conditions to revive the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis, and overcome obstacles facing the resumption of negotiations, based on the two-state solution, and international legitimacy resolutions.

The foreign minister pointed to the importance of Britain's role in supporting peace efforts and achieve security and stability in the region.

The two sides also reviewed the situation in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, stressing the importance of finding political solutions to these issues to ensure the stability of these countries as well as the territorial integrity and security of their peoples through dialogue.

They also discussed the huge burden Jordan is bearing as a result hosting Syrian refugees and its implications on the kingdom's limited resources.

In this context, they called upon the international community to support Jordan to enable it to perform this great humanitarian mission carried out on behalf of the world.

Hammond voiced his country's support for Jordan's pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to achieve security and stability in the region, and deal with the threat of terrorism, stressing Britain's keenness to continue coordinating with Jordan on various issues and challenges.
