Islamabad: Four workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) were allegedly shot dead by a defeated candidate belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) amid continuing violence even after the local government polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Media reports said the workers were killed in a clash between rival political parties that occurred due to tension over rigging allegations in the local polls.

Sources said that members of both the parties were sitting at a restaurant at Fawwara Chowk of the city at around 2:30pm when they exchanged hot words that led to the clash. Two people also sustained bullet injuries in the clash. They were taken to the Ayub Medical Complex where their condition was stated to be critical. Later relatives of the deceased blocked the Karakoram Highway by placing the bodies on it. The road was reopened after efforts made by the local police.
