Hyderabad: Close on the heels of the ‘cash for vote’ scam involving Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator from Telangana Revanth Reddy the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh faced another embarrassing situation on Wednesday when a bag containing one million rupees in cash was found in the house of Women Development Child and Disabled Welfare Minister P Sujatha in Veeravarasaram of West Godavari district.

The bag containing the cash education certificates and hall ticket for District Selection Committee exam of a woman identified as Sri Lakshmi was found by her staff. The minister denied having anything to do with the money and said she had informed the police as soon as the bag was found. “This is a conspiracy hatched by the opposition to malign my image” she claimed.

Police sources said some women came to visit the minister and one of them Addala Vishnuvati a retired teacher had left behind the bag containing the cash. When the police questioned her Vishnuvati said she had visited the minister’s house but forgot to pick up her bag containing the cash which she claimed she had withdrawn from a nearby bank for her niece’s wedding.

West Godavari District Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhaskar Bushan said a case has been registered under Section 102 of the Indian Penal Code and that further investigations were on.

Sujatha who also holds the Mining and Geology portfolio was earlier alleged to have accepted four million rupees from mining contractors as bribe. She had also invited the wrath of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu when she accepted a gold waist belt offered by a group of realtors.
