Brussels meeting discusses Libya situation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) EU High Representative Federica Mogherini together with UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni met in Brussels Wednesday Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Dairi.

A statement from Mogherini's office tonight said they discussed the situation in Libya, notably the urgency of Libyans reaching an agreement on a National Unity Government under the auspices of the UN-led dialogue process and the need to co-operate to address common challenges such as migration and tackling terrorism.

The meeting, part of regular on going contacts with Libyan authorities, took place in the context of the preparations of the EU maritime operation EUNAVFOR MED, which will focus on dismantling the business model of those involved in human smuggling and is led by an Italian Commander, and of the UNSCR process, it noted.

The meeting was very constructive and contacts with Libyans, the UN and key partners in the region will continue, it added.
