(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Petroleum (QP), along with a number of its major joint ventures and subsidiaries, is participating in the 26th World Gas Conference (WGC), which is now being held in Paris.
With the theme of "Growing Together Towards a Friendly Planet," the 26th WGC brings together the world's leading energy players, decision makers and thousands of industry professionals for an in-depth discussion of the current issues and challenges as well as the future prospects of the global gas industry.
The triennial event is presented by the International Gas Union (IGU), a non-profit organisation whose 142 charter and associate members in 91 countries, including Qatar, account for more than 95% of the global gas market. Over 4,000 delegates from more than 100 countries are expected to attend WGC 2015.

Qatar's strong presence at the conference was highlighted by Qatargas' principle sponsorship of the event. On the opening day of the conference, Qatargas CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani delivered a keynote speech, which focused on the theme "Natural gas € a Core Pillar of a Sustainable Energy Future."
The speech underlined the fact that LNG will play a major role in a sustainable energy future as it represents an attractive alternative to unsustainable, higher priced, higher polluting, and less reliable energy options.
QP and its subsidiaries' prominent participation in the event is in line with Qatar's renowned position as the world's leading producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with a production capacity of 77mn tonnes per year.
Qatar is also known as the global capital of gas-to-liquids (GTL) products. The country has the world's third largest gas reserves, and the country's North Field, which was discovered in 1971 is considered the world's largest single non-associated gas reservoir.
The QP exhibition stand at the 26th WGC highlights its comprehensive operations in the oil and gas industry, including the activities of its Industrial Cities infrastructure bases in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed.
In addition, it also features the displays of its joint ventures and subsidiaries, including Qatargas, RasGas, Oryx GTL and Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac).
Qatar's delegation has an important role in the conference sessions. A number of senior officials from both RasGas and Qatargas will also be delivering presentations over the course of the five-day conference.
