(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, on Tuesday visited the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences at the University City of Sharjah.
H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Centre last May.
Sheikh Humaid toured the Centre and was briefed on its components and laboratories.
He also toured a number of the Centre's facilities.
During the visit, Sheikh Humaid was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Representative of the Ajman Ruler for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department; and other officials.
Ajman Ruler stressed that this academic and cultural institution is a source of pride for the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular.
He added that the Centre was gleaned from the vision of Sharjah Ruler which covered all walks of life, adding that it will be a new landmark of the UAE, and will symbolise the country's welfare and development.
He noted that the UAE is steadily progressing in the field of space science addressing the future of human needs and development. He pointed out that this centre contains rare devices and equipment which are hardly found in other centres.
He also reiterated that this universal and scientific space institution will be a springboard to raise awareness and enhance a culture about astronomy as a science among Emiratis.
Sheikh Humaid was received at the Centre by Dr. Hamid Mjul Al Nuaimi, Director of the Sharjah University and Director of the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences, and a number of officials.
